17 Jul KBC Public Consultation – Seats On The Street
Kettering Borough Council are looking to consult the local community on changes to rules which would make it easier for local businesses (cafes, restaurants, bars, etc) to place tables and chairs outside their premises.
Normally, putting tables and chairs on the pavement or roadway outside a building needs planning permission from Kettering Borough Council, as well as an annual street café licence from Northamptonshire County Council.
However, Kettering Borough Council recognise that this makes it a slow process, so they have introduced in 2015 a “Local Development Order”, which in effect grants permission to businesses in a specific area to go ahead without getting planning permission.
That order has now expired, and KBC are looking to update it with a new order which would last indefinitely.
Kettering Borough Council want to encourage an on street café culture in Kettering to make it a more vibrant and interesting place.
A copy of the draft local development order and a statement of the Council’s reasons for making the order are available for inspection at the Municipal Offices, Kettering Borough Council, Bowling Green Road, Kettering, Northamptonshire, NN15 7QX between the times of 08:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday, and are published on the Council’s website at http://consult.kettering.gov.uk/portal
