03 Apr UK-wide recognition for Kettering social enterprise
A Kettering-based organisation has been recognised for its work to promote active travel to children, by being named among the UK’s top 100 social enterprises.
Brightkidz, which was set up 15 years ago by founder Alison Holland, was listed in the highly acclaimed 2019 NatWest SE100 Index – a national scheme which celebrates the growth, impact and resilience of successful UK social ventures.
As part of the vigorous application and judging process, Brightkidz, whose projects encourage people to walk, scoot, cycle or bus journey to school and work, had to demonstrate a strong business focus, social impact and success.
Alison said: “Brightkidz is entering a very exciting year as a social enterprise, as we look to grow our already successful business. This wonderful news could not have come at a better time. To be named in the UK’s top 100 social enterprises is an amazing achievement and shows that we are leading the way for other local businesses like ours – whose profits are ploughed back into the organisation to run important projects that make a real and lasting impact in our community.
“Brightkidz has an exciting year ahead, as we continue to build and develop our work with schools and businesses to promote active and sustainable travel as a natural choice for everyday journeys – this is just the beginning.”
Alison, who has previously won other national awards and recently co-founded the new ‘Kettering Town Centre Partnership’ and ‘Town Centre Youth Partnership’, added: “I’m keen to use this latest achievement to not only promote Brightkidz projects, like our very exciting ST:EPS (Safer Travel: Enabling Primary Schools) initiative with local primary schools, but to raise awareness of the vital and growing role that social enterprises play in our economy and local communities in Kettering. Through the Town Centre Partnership I am also collaborating with fellow social enterprises in our town to join forces and apply for the prestigious Social Enterprise Place badge.”
